Uplynulo již 20 let od doby, kdy se světoví vůdci dobrovolně podrobili nadvládě mimozemských sil. XCOM tvořící poslední obrannou linii lidstva byl zanechán na pospas zkáze. XCOM 2 byl poprvé představen na E3 v LA a dočkal se náležité pozornosti a slávy, navzdory tomu, že jde o titul, který vychází jen pro PC, Mac a Linux. Absence konzolové verze je mírným nedostatkem oproti XCOM: Enemy Unknown a ani vývojáři se zatím k vydání verze pro konzole nevyjádřili.
